Harry Potter’s lesser known, not so dead parent’s cousin right here
- The children (who are mostly different nationalities) with magical powers all come from one ancestor - who is African. No tiptoeing or handwaving or cloaking it. He is known as the Red King, and had a plethora of magical items and children…how? There’s a prequel series in progress. And let me tell you, it’s a pretty badass progress.
- The powers the kids have are mundanely cool and varied as hell. Charlie (pictured), can go into photographs. One dude can gather emotions from clothing. Another can bring stone statues to life! Another can drown people without any water nearby. Everyone at Hogwarts is base capable of magic, but just because you can turn into birds (another power) doesn’t mean you can hypnotize people)
- Sorry I’m not sorry, but Bloor’s Academy is cooler to me than Hogwarts. Ask someone to FOIL something at Hogwarts and you’re in deep shit; Here, you learn both the practicalities and the magic stuff, and that’s what everyone should aim for.
- Even the ‘Muggles’ get in on the fun. The main antagonists are people with reach in high places (including the administration) and exert power, but even those who are unendowed do their part to at least slow down the plans. Magic isn’t always the answer.
"Out of the blue, beyond any cause you can trace, you'll suddenly realize things are not how you perceived them to be at all. For some reason, you will no longer be the person you believed you once were. You'll detect slow and subtle shifts going on all around you, more importantly shifts in you."
